MiSight 1 day
This is the FIRST and ONLY soft contact lens for myopia control for age-appropriate children.
Dr. Bahn is very proud to be one of the few practitioners in the DFW metroplex and one of two in Mansfield to offer MiSight therapy lenses for controlling myopia. The lenses are the first approved by the FDA to slow myopia progression in children. This is a pretty big deal! Three years of detailed scientific studies have shown us that wearing MiSight lenses can reduce myopic progression in children by 59% on average! This is extremely exciting by reducing vision correction dependence as well as reducing the risks of eye health conditions related to high myopia such as myopic macular degeneration, glaucoma and retinal detachment.
Our MiSight Myopia Management program is a full comprehensive approach to effectively manage myopia with a therapy lens that wears like a daily disposable soft contact lens. The ultimate goal being to slow down the progression of your child's prescription and effectively maintaining the health of their eyes.
What is Myopia?
Many children have a condition called myopia, whose primary symptom is nearsightedness. The eyes of a child with myopia become longer over time, which causes distant objects to appear blurry. And, if it’s not addressed, myopia often worsens as your child gets older.
Whether or not your child complains of not being able to see objects in the distance clearly - such as the board at the front of their classroom – they should have annual comprehensive eye exams to check for myopia and other eye conditions that may not have signs or symptoms.
So What Causes Myopia ?
Myopia results from the eye growing too long. This causes images and objects to be focused in front of the retina versus where it should be, and this leads to blurry distance vision.
It can be influenced both genetically and environmentally. When a parent has myopia, the child then has a 1 in 3 chance of also being myopic. If both parents are myopic, then it is a 50% chance. Even if neither parents are myopic there is still a 25% chance that your child will develop myopia. Lifestyle factors including extended screen time and not enough time spent outdoors is also a contributor to the development and further progression of myopia.
